Trip Generation Studies come in two forms. The first is a relatively short letter that calculates that the traffic expected to be generated by a small development and where that traffic is likely to travel on the adjacent street system. The report typically shows that the small increase in traffic generated by a particular project will not significantly impact the adjacent transportation system.
The second form of Trip Generation Study is a report that analyzes the existing traffic generated by a specific land use in order to develop an accurate trip generation rate that can be used for to calculate forecast traffic from a new development. This includes a number of surveys, some statistical analysis and a report.
